Product Details
Design
This GRP version builds on the standard AGS Q3 BASEplate you know and love, but now with an integrated, minimal, low-profile grip.
Together they make Q3 more comfortable and secure to hold.
The grip is replaceable/swapable. And uses the same 1/4" - 20 screw that attaches to the bottom of the camera. All other features and specs are the same as our standard baseplate.
Function
The aim is to make the Q3 more comfortable and secure to hold. But it follows the same design aesthetic and philosophy as always. Something that shows reverence, adds character (without taking away from the camera), and provides additional protection and function.
Manifesting this idea that truly functional tools are both highly useful and beautiful, this Arca-Swiss compatible dovetail grip for the Q3 is an elegant piece that you'll never want or need to remove from your camera.
The baseplate supports the camera whether or not it's mounted to a tripod or other accessory. It sits flush on flat surfaces, stable both side-to-side and front-to-back. Cutouts permit full access to the battery and memory card. All the supporting hardware is made from stainless steel. This includes the second 1/4"-20 mount, which is now a stainless-steel insert for increase strength and durability when attaching other accessories or mounting on non-arch-Swiss platforms like a gimbal.
While the grip is low profile, it has a distinct cutaway on the back to provide a secure feel on your finger tips. It creates a proper balance with camera both ascetically and functionally.
Material
The 360 brass alloy used in our CNC-machined baseplate, made primarily of copper and zinc, is dense, strong, ductile, and easy to work with. It interfaces smoothly with other metals and resists seizing or corrosion. It can be recycled over and over again. And it has so much personality.
Leica's tradition of using brass in its cameras and lenses was born partly from these practicalities. Our all-brass baseplate directly connects to this history, albeit with a more progressive than nostalgic approach: Brass is simply the most beautiful and practical material for this purpose.
Aesthetically, the bright warmth of our Raw Machined Brass baseplate complements the Q. Even rare special editions of the Q are elevated by our brass baseplate.
Most importantly, as your baseplate ages, its patina will belong to you alone.
—
Micarta is a material familiar to the knife making world, but new to the camera world. It's a composite of natural fibers (typically cotton) and resin. The material properties make it highly durable, but also warm, and like brass it will naturally patina with handling and use.
Finish
At the core the base of these grip are offered in Raw Machined Brass, which highlights the material characteristics and connects to Leica's history of brass-bodied cameras. What begins as a gleaming form straight out of the box, will gradually patina and takie on surface wear with use. Your Raw Machined Brass baseplate will become a physical record of your experiences with your Q3.
There is also a highly requested Patin version with a heavy pre-age. It's a softly worn bronze/black with just a hint of the brass showing.
The options will also include raw brass in a satin finish that more closely aligns to Leica's own accessories for the Q3.
There will also be a Satin Black Paint version. It's a durable ceramic based coating, but with heavy wear over time, this surface treatment will gracefully reveal the baseplate's brass underlayer, recalling the weathered brassing of countless well-worn, brass-bodied M cameras.
There will be more exciting materials and variations coming for the Q3 Baseplates in the future. Titanium versions have been machined and will be available available in very limited quantities.
All baseplates are machine-engraved with the Analogous branding and a product code to clearly indicate your baseplate's version, production year, material, and finish.
FAQs
What's your warranty?
The baseplates are guaranteed for a lifetime of normal use with reasonable wear and patina. If there's a mistake or you have an issue with our product, I'll take care of it. Email support@ags.supply.
What's your return policy?
Most Analogous products are made of brass, a material with memory that naturally changes color with age. It retains signs of handling and use caused by the oils on your skin, as well as other contaminants. For this reason, raw brass baseplates are treated with a dry oil to prevent the patina from starting prematurely, but they will still age over time. Brass is also a relatively soft metal that will show subtle scratches and wear with use.
Returned baseplates that have been previously handled or mounted to a camera will likely not be able to be resold as new. For this reason, please be kind in considering a return.
Good-faith returns are accepted on a case-by-case basis.
Return shipping is your responsibility, but a return label can be provided upon request. Email support@ags.supply for returns or questions.
How soon will I get my order?
You'll receive shipping confirmation and tracking info once your order ships.
It's a small studio, and can't guarantee same-day shipping of orders (though most orders before 3pm do go out the same day). But the aim is to get orders out as quickly as possible, within one business day or less in most cases.
What happens if they are sold out?
In the event that an item is out of stock know that more are being produced as quickly as possible.
The aim is to keep production slightly ahead of orders. But these are not mass produced objects. This is generally a one-person operation, so spikes in orders can quickly outpace supply. This isn't some artificial scarcity, the goal is to produce enough to match demand without creating excess.
I no longer take back orders on products.
Contact support@ags.supply with any questions about product details or product availability.
How much is shipping in the United States?
For U.S. domestic addresses, there are a few shipping options.
Screw Dot covers can be shipped via USPS Ground Advantage, and is typically $4.60 or less. Baseplates only ship via Fedex or UPS due to the higher value and more predictable shipping and tracking.
Additional shipping options are available and calculated at checkout.
What about international shipping?
For now we are only selling to a limited number of countries internationally. International orders will be handled via UPS or USPS. All shipping options and rates are calculated at checkout.
At this time, we are not collecting VAT or other international taxes at checkout.
VAT or other import duties may be due on delivery.
What about a discount?
These are small run, quality products, that are made to last, while minimizing excess consumption and waste. For this reason, Analogous intentionally doesn't offer general discounts or sales.
Occasionally free shipping is offerd as a short term promotion, typically at the launch of a new product for early customers.
Also, blemished goods or seconds or used baseplates will be made available at a discounted rate. Reachout for more info on used or blemished product.
When will the black finish be available?
The black finish is now available for the Q2! In a similar fashion, a black version of the Q3 Baseplate will be available.
There have been a few iterations of the black finish. Originally it was a hot black oxide treatment that converts the outer layer of brass to rich black. Moving forward all black baseplates will be finished in with a ceramic based black coating with white painted engravings. It's a durable finish That with time will slowly reveal the underlying brass.

What about other materials or customization?
This is great question! On occasion a custom spec versions are produced. One of the first was a bronze version made for a dear friend. It's a slightly modified version of our baseplate, machined in bronze and custom-engraved. Other modifications or finishes have been produced for customers in the past.
Because every baseplate is designed and made in-house, it's possible to make custom items and one-offs, but need to be fit in around standard production.
If you have a special request, let's talk. Pricing will depend on your specific request, including material.
What about other cameras?
There has been a flattering amount of questions regarding other cameras and other camera brands.
It's a larger topic, but for now, the focus is on newer Leica digital cameras. The Q3 baseplate has launched, with a grip version to follow, then something for the M11, then most likely the SL3.
One person makes everything you see here, and there's only so much I can produce at one time. I also make what I personally use. Never say never, but other brands/cameras are low on the list at the moment. If you have a very burning desire for a specific camera and no other product will do, hit me up. Let's chat about it.
